Wow do you guys suck

So I was surfing the tubes today and came to a site that forwarded me to this stupid website. First I was pissed because I wasn’t able to immediately access the site I wanted, then I was even more pissed by the amazing load of B.S. on the site. “FireFox users a somewhat small percentage of the internet” they say? Well, this and this at the very least Firefox users are 10% of the web surfing community. 10% of a community is not a “somewhat small percentage” in business terms. If you go by the w3schools estimate we are talking 1/3 of the community (of geeks that visit w3schools granted).

Personally, I think the acceptance of ad blocking signifies a failed business model on the part of website designers, not an evil badness on the part of users. Nobody was clicking your damn links anyway.

She may not be the prettiest…

…but she is all I have. For now.

sloth’s media center project

It might be hard to make out but my old 12″ powerbook is sitting below the 30″ HDTV (yay for open box clearance stuff) and is connected via DVI->HDMI to the TV and via good old RCA to the stereo. The TV will do 1080i but my laptop can only put out a clean signal up to 720p which works pretty darn well for me.

You can’t tell from the photo but web surfing is OK on the TV (enough to grab a video from a site or something). I will hopefully one day have a wireless keyboard/mouse combo and/or a remote but for now USB extension cables FTW.

Re: Sage’s love affair

Re: Re: Sage’s love affair

For the record I was NOT making fun of Voltron. Voltron is one of the few cases where multiple vehicles are allowed to join into one mass without breaking transportation rule 25-A. I will refer you to the transportation rules page for more information.

If you are reading this…

… the you are reading Abodes.org on it’s shiny new server. One that’s not in someone’s basement.

Well, I can’t actually guarantee that. But I’m reasonably certain it’s in a data center. Or a basement that’s like a data center.

Not my basement at least.

Cell phone porn

So I got a phone call today from an 877 number. My phone was not getting a good signal so I didn’t answer it but when I got to a computer I googled the # and what did I find? The number was an adult sex line. Someone named Claire or something like that who was between the age of 20 and 24. Most people have a definite age but apparently Claire was raised by wolves who aren’t very good with calendar years.

Around dinner I called this number back and what do I find? The Sprint PCS customer retention department picked up. A younger sounding guy who said his name was Daemon or something like that picked up. His parents must have been total nerds. Anyway, he didn’t sound like Claire so I was really disappointed.

So I fire up Duck Hunt

I fire up Duck Hunt on my new Yobo FC console. I get to level 11 first try. My wife kills a single duck in level 1 first try.

Wow.

If you have purchased a Belkin wireless device in the past few years (I think I have purchased 3) you should click here. You may qualify for a refund.

Back from the ether

I got a bounced email back from a mailserver today. This is not too much of a surprise except for the fact that the email was originally sent from my account on Thu, 6 May 2004 16:47:15. I had been emailing the intended recipient around that time and it was a valid email address.

I know that in this day and age we expect immediate results and instant gratification, but I still think that 3 years is a bit excessive to find out that an email did not arrive. To make matters worse, the mail system in question must think this is a normal occurrence since the only response I got was:

This is the mail system at host mail.invertedcube.net.

I’m sorry to have to inform you that your message could not
be delivered to one or more recipients. It’s attached below.

For further assistance, please send mail to postmaster.

If you do so, please include this problem report. You can
delete your own text from the attached returned message.

The mail system

At the very least it should have been something like:

I really screwed up and lost your email under /dev/refrigerator and only discovered it after running the house.cleaning process that we do every decade or so. Sorry about that. The guy you emailed is dead now, or probably dead, or at least not here and he didn’t leave a forward. I really do feel sorry about this. - Mail server

A cold wind bloweth (finally)

I’ve been super busy around the casa del oso peresozo and due to the AC failing on the first day of warm weather I’ve been busier than I had anticipated. Fear not potential guests! I found the burst component that was to blame and restored cool refreshing arctic air to the house. It’s almost like I stole hundereds of dollars out of an HVAC technician’s earnings. Potential earnings.

Booyah indeed.
