I know what is being referred to by “box” but I have never understood why that makes any sense. Little man in the canoe perhaps, but box?

Urban Dictionary has the following which *may* explain the usage:
box
female genitalia, specifically, the vagina
The box a penis comes in.
I’m doubtful however and think this is just folk etymology made up after the fact to explain the word’s origin in this use. There is a term for this besides “folk etymology” or “false etymology”. Bonus points if you can remind me what it is, I can’t remember at the moment.
